Abstrak

English as a medium of instruction is one system to use mathematics and science teachers to improve their quality in teaching mathematics and science process. But, in fact the teachers confuse how to use it, because of their English skill was poor. The purpose of this research is to find out theteachers’ perception on English as a medium of instruction for teaching mathematics and science. Thisresearch is qualitative research and the design of this research was case study.The writer collects the data through the questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire is given to the twenty teachers from six mathematics teachers and fourteen science teachers in SMA N 1 Gebog Kudus to find out the teachers’ perception on English as a medium of instruction for teaching mathematics and science. In the result of the research, the writer concludes that the teachers’ perception of the using English as a medium of instruction in for teaching mathematics and science are different. Some of the mathematics and science teachers agree to use English as a medium of instruction for teaching mathematics and science. But, they do not have confidence to use it. In the other hand, some of mathematics and science teachers disagree to use English as a medium of instruction in teaching and learning process. The teachers still find the problem when they use English as a medium of instruction. Therefore, the writer suggests that the mathematics and science teachers should be confident with their English skill so they can good to use English as a medium of instruction for the teaching mathematics and science.
