Abstrak

English is an international language that plays important role in globalization era. To face it, the English teaching must be focused on four skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. One of four skills that must be mastered by the students is reading. Unfortunately, the score of reading comprehensioan of the tenth year students of MA Nurul Ulum, Kudus was not satisfied yet. Therefore, I am interested in holding the research entitled “The Ability of Reading Narrative Text of the Tenth Grade Students of MA NU Nurul Ulum Jekulo Kudus by Using Reciprocal Teaching Technique in Academic Year 2011/2012”. Thee objective of this research is to find out whether there is any significant difference in student’s reading ability of narrative text between the tenth grade students of MA Nurul Ulum Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 that are taught by using conventional technique. The research design is experimental research. The population of this is all of the tenth grade students of MA Nurul Ulum Kudus in academic year 2022/2012 in second semesters. I take X-3 and X-4 as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The instrument of the research is test. The test consist of 30 multiple choices of reading narrative. The result of the research shows that the reading ability of the tenth grade student’s o MA Nurul Ulum Kudus taught by using reciprocal teaching technique in academic year 2011/2012 is categorized good. The mean= 88, 63 and standard deviation = 6, 12. Meanwhile reading ability of narrative text between the tenth grade students of MA Nurul Ulum Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 is categorized sufficient. The mean = 80, 34 and standard deviation 5,72. The result of t-test is 56, 3. It is higher than t table thet is 2, 00 (in the level of significance 5% and 2,65 in the level of significance 1% ). Thus, I suggest that the study by using reciprocal teaching technique will be better than conventional teaching technique. So, I had shown that the teacher are easier by using reciprocal teaching technique in teaching learning process to give positive effect on student ’ s reading narrative text ability.
