Abstrak

In learning English many students may be still difficult to study about functional grammar especially about process of transitivity. In functional grammar we teach many materials about analyses for example are Theme and Rheme, Nominal Group, Cohesion, and the transitivity. All of that can make the students be confused moreover can make them dizzy. With this skirpsi I want the student easier to understand about functional grammar especially about transitivity. This study is aimed to find out kinds the process of transitivity and find out the dominant process of transitivity in The Last Airbender movie script. They are material process, mental process, behavioral process, verbal process, relational process, existential process, and meteorological process. There are something that makes the material look like easy; it is can be caused process itself. With the process it self we can know what kinds the process of transitivity. By using these aimed, it can explain what it’s the meaning the process of transitivity and knowing kinds of that. This research is qualitative research, its mean focus on material it does contain of research by using many literatures. Literature is foundation of this research. Then writer collect literature about research, collect script that will be analyzed, divide to be some clause and the analyze each of clause in The Last Airbender movie script. The result of this analysis shows that the process of transitivity used by the main character to do something or interact with the other. After analyses the data the writer found six kinds of the process of transitivity they are material, behavioral, mental, verbal, relational and existential process in The Last Airbender movie script produced by the main character (Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko) And material process as the dominant process of the script contains of 117 clauses with percentage (39.13%). Due the fact that the process of transitivity is the important point in functional grammar and from the result above, English learner should enrich themselves by understanding transitivity. Not only in genre type but we can find the process of transitivity in script movie or the other object like short story, script drama and novel.
