Abstrak

This research is caused by the low mathematics learning achievment of grade IV students of SD Purworejo 3 Demak in the Mathematics. This is because of the learning process which still use speech method and the passiveness of students in learning process. Based on that description, so it is needed to use the attractive learning method to guide the students become more active in the teaching learning process. Therefore, the researcher conduct this research by using discovery learning method. This research is aimed to improving the cognitif students learning achievment, the learning of affective student activity, learning of student’s psychomotoric activity and the teacher competency in managing the learning. Discovery learning method is teaching method where the teacher lets the students to discover things by themselves freely because students can understand well with that. In this method the teacher gives the clue in the learning process. The steps in discovery learning methods are: Stimulation , Problem statement, Data collection, Data processing, Verification, Generalization. The action hypothesis of this research is there is significant improvement mathematics learning achievment in geometry material by using discovery learning method to the grade IV of SD Purworejo 3 Demak in academic year 2013/2014. This research is a class act that is done in two cycles consisting of two meeting in grade IV SD Purworejo 3 Demak. The methods of data collecting are interview, observation, test and documentation. The research instrumens used the observation sheet, interviews manualbook, and achievement test. Technique of analysis data used by quantitative and qualitative. The result of this research shows that the use of discovery learning method can improve learning achievment of students’ cognitive, afective, psychomotoric and teacher creativity. This can be seen from the following indicators: (1) the students got the average score from cycle I = 77,06 to cycle II = 91,19 with the percentage 79% to 97% (2) Students affective is improved from the cycle I = 2,63 to cycle II = 3,14 and it is classified “good” (3) Students psychomotoric is improve from the cycle I = 2,74 to cycle II = 3,25 and it is classified “excellent” (4) The teacher creativity in managing the learning is improved from the cycle I = 3,14 to cycle II = 3,55 and it is classified “excellent”. So the conclusion of this research is the implementation discovery learning method for learning geometry mathematic can increase learning achievment of grade IV students of SD Purworejo 3 Demak in the academic year 2013/2014. The suggestion can be communicableis teacher must try to improved student learning achievment one other thing by applying learning method can be student improved activity and student motivation one other thing with discovery learning method.
