Abstrak
Writing is one of four basic skills. Most of people know that writing is difficult skill, because writing becomes the highest level after listening, speaking and reading. Writing involves some language components (spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation). It is also taught in SMA 2 Bae Kudus. Unfortunately, the students still difficult to make a good wting, especially in writing hortatory exposition text. Because of this difficulties, some efforts have been done to solve the problems. One of them is by using authentic texts. The purpose of this research is to find out the significant difference between the mastery on writing hortatory exposition of the eleventh grade students of SMA 2 Bae Kudus of academic year 2011/2012 taught by using authentic texts and text available on the students’ textbook. An experimental research design is used to gather the data, while a quantitative approach is used to analyze the data. Furthermore, the variable of the research consist of dependent variable that is authentic texts, and independent variable that is students’ writing mastery on hortatory exposition text of the eleventh grade students of SMA 2 BAE KUDUS the academic year 2011/2012. The research is done in the eleventh grade students of SMA 2 Bae Kudus in Academic Year 2011/2012. The treatment is given in experiment class, then to compare the result, the writer uses the score using authentic texts and using text available on the students’ textbooks. From the research, the writer find out the data, (1) The mean score of the mastery students’ writing hortatory exposition text using authentic texts 90.37 and the standard deviation 6.3, (2) The mean score of the students’ writing hortatory exposition using text available on the students’ textbook 68.40 and the standard deviation 2.32, (3) The result of t-test of score using authentic texts and using text available on the students’ textbooks 19.10 that is greater than t-table 2.00. It can be inferred that authentic texts is very effective to help students mastering their writing hortatory exposition text than using text available on the students’ textbook. Considering the process and the result of the research, the writer would suggest that the authentic texts help the students mastering writing hortatory exposition texts.
