Abstrak

Writing is an activity which expresses knowledge, ideas, feelings, and opinions in written language. Writting should get more attention because there are many students who get difficulties in writting. The writer found same problems in teaching writing of seventh grade students in MTs Mambaul Falah Kudus. To solve the problems, the writer proposed is Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) Strategy. It can help the students to develop their writing. The purpose of the research is to find out whether any significant difference between the writing ability of descriptive text of seventh graders in MTs Mambaul Falah Kudus in academic year 2017 / 2018 before and after being taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) Strategy. The design of the research is experimental research. The writer uses one group pre-test and post-test design and gives the treatment only in one group. The instrument is written test. The population of the research is the seventh graders of MTs Mambaul Falah Kudus in academic year 2017 / 2018 and the sample is 7A which consist of 30 students. The result of the research shows that the mean of pre-test scores is 56.1. It is categorized as “sufficient”. Therefore, the mean of post-test scores is 82.4. It is categorized as “very good”. Based on the result of the data, t-critical is ± 2.045 with level of significance (α) 0.05, and degree of freedom (df) is 29 and t-obtained (to) is 13.04 and the t-test is 2.080. Therefore, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted because the to into falls critical region. So, the hypothesis state, “there is a significant difference between the writing ability of descriptive text of the seventh graders in MTs Mambaul Falah Kudus in academic year 2017 / 2018 before and after being taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) Strategy. Based on the process and result, the writer suggests that the English teacher should be more creative and innovative in selecting the suitable strategy in teaching and learning process. Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) Strategy can be used as alternative strategy to teach writing of descriptive text.
