Abstrak

Grammar has significant role in arranging the vocabularies to be a good phrase, clause, sentence and paragraph. As the non-native speaker of English, it makes grammar is seen as the most difficult part to be learnt. Phrase is one of many gammar rules that English learners should be able. Noun phrase is the most familiar that can found in all of text, morover in descriptive text. In writing descritive text, the writer cannot without noun phrase because this phrase will give more detail information of the thing which is described. This research aims to find out whether there is any significant correlation between the mastery of noun phrase and the ability of writing descriptive text of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in 2017/2018 academic year. To be able to fnd the correlation between the mastery of noun phrase and the ability of writing descriptive text, the writer conducts a correlational research which is in area of quantitative. The subject of the research is the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in 2017/2018 academic year. The research instrument used in this research is test. The result of the study shows that there is a significant correlation between the mastery of noun phrase and the ablility of writing descriptive text of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in 2017/2018 academic year. Based on the result of the calculation which has explained in Appendix that rxy is 0.67. It is categorized moderate correlation. Because of the result of the research, the writer would like to give suggestion as follows; (1) The teacher should be able to facilitate of the students in any material moreover in noun phrase because noun phrase is predicted will give more influence to the ability of writing descriptive text. (2) The students should learn more about noun phrase. (3) It suggested to further reaserchers conducting the researchs about other parts of lexicogrammatical features of descriptive text.
