Abstrak
Foreign language anxiety is one of the psychological factors that influence students to learn English, namely feelings of worry, fear, and doubt. Based on the researcher's experience during teaching practice at tenth-grade students of SMKN 01 Kudus in the 2021/2022 academic year, the researchers found that many students indicated they had anxiety symptoms. Therefore, this study aims to determine the factors that cause anxiety and how anxiety was experienced by the tenth-grade students of SMKN 01 Kudus in the academic year 2021/2022. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative design with a descriptive analysis approach to analyze the data. To collect data used observation and interview. The researcher determined participants in the tenth-grade students of the Fashion design department at SMKN 01 Kudus in the academic year of 2022/2023. The results showed that many as ten participants in the tenth-grade students of SMKN 01 Kudus in the academic year of 2021/2022 experienced anxiety when learning English. Symptoms of anxiety can be seen in their behavior during learning in English class, such as; low level of verbal production, lack of volunteerism in class, avoidance of eye contact, shaking, and stuttering when speaking. There are three factors that cause it, namely lack of exposure, self belief-about English, and the Social environment of the school. Furthermore, the researcher hopes that this research can be a reference for teachers and students in order to reduce students' anxiety in learning English.
