Abstrak

The use of various digital platforms cannot be separated from the online-based learning. The teacher can select what media is effective for online learning. The utilization of an appropriate platform that students can easily access may help them enjoy the online learning process. This research aimed to investigate the students’ and teachers’ preferences towards the digital platforms used in English Language Teaching at SMA Negeri 3 Pati. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative. The participants of this research were 30 students of Tenth Grade Students and 5 English teachers of SMA Negeri 3 Pati. Data were collected through a questionnaire and a structured interview. The result showed that Whatsapp is the most preferred among other digital platforms in practicality, while to share and submit assignments the students preferred Google Classroom, and the digital platforms that can replace the face-to-face meeting that the students prefer to use is Google Meet. The teachers preferred Google Meet and Whatsapp. The research findings point out that Google Meet is easy to access and deliver the learning materials. Meanwhile, Whatsapp is easy to access and use, already familiar to them, and can receive internet signals better than other digital platforms. The suggestion of this research are for students, English teacher and future researcher. For the students: the researchers hope that students be ready and maximize their learning with whatever platform is used, for teachers: the researcher reccomend the teacher to use the appropiate digital platform based on the learning subject, teaching material, and teaching and learning activities. Future researchers: the researcher expected that future researchers can improve and do similar research with better designs and different objects.
