Abstrak
Grammar is the rules about how words are combined, arranged, or altered. While, Speaking is an interactive process of making meaning that includes producing, receiving, and processing an information. Both between grammar and speaking is very related each other. This research is aimed to find out the correlation between grammar mastery and speaking skill of the third semester students of English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus in the academic year 2021/2022. In investigating the correlation between grammar mastery and speaking skill of the third semester students, the researcher conducts a correlational research which is in the category of quantitative. The number of sample is 17 students which is taken through the technique of cluster random sampling. Related to the instrument of this research, there are two kind of tests used to collect the data; grammar test used to know the grammar mastery of the students and speaking test used to know the students' speaking skill. The result of the research shows that the mean score of grammar mastery is 75.88 and the mean score of speaking skill is 73. Furthermore, the coefficient correlation was gotten 0.408. Because, rxy is higher than rtable, H0 is rejected, and Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted. Therefore, there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and speaking skill of third semester students of English Education Department. This study provides the students information about the level of grammar mastery and speaking skill of the students'. From this research they can be more aware about their grammar learning English. By knowing this research, the teachers can also know the correlation between students’ grammar and students’ speaking ability. The researcher hopes that the teacher can pay more attention to their students’ grammar as well as their students English speaking.
