Abstrak

Code-Switching is one of the phenomenons in bilingual or multilingual. Based on the condition, people can speak two or more languages. Being bilingual or multilingual can be a helpful skill in today’s society to get the dream job, especially mastering English. Sacha Stevenson’s shared some learning English on YouTube for those trying to improve their ability in English. The objectives of this research are: (1) To find out the types of Indonesian-English code-switching used on Sacha Stevenson’s YouTube Channel, and (2) To give more information about the functions of Indonesian-English code-switching used by Sacha Stevenson’s YouTube Channel. Qualitative research is the design of this research, and the data sources are the utterances in two videos about learning English on Sacha Stevenson’s YouTube Channel. The writer used observation to collect the data and make a transcript from the videos, then identifying the various types, and functions of code-switching. The result of this research is to answer two research questions. The first research question showed three types of code-switching, and the most common use is intra-sentential switching occurs 110 times, with a percentage of 70,06%. Meanwhile, the second research question showed ten functions of code-switching, and the most frequent use is equivalence occurs 55 times with 25,58% as the percentage. The interpretation of Indonesian-English code-switching in the two videos about learning English on Sacha Stevenson’s YouTube Channel showed that intra-sentential switching and equivalence are the highest usages of the types and functions of code-switching. She wants to add to the viewer’s vocabulary by changing her language to others and adding knowledge of how to say the correct term in English. From the result of the research, the writer suggests to the students use code-switching in their daily conversation, especially intra-sentential switching. And to make the sentences match or equal, they can use equivalence. It can improve their vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills in English. The researcher hopes another researcher use code-switching in their daily conversation and could use this as a guide while doing their future research about code-switching better than the writer.
