Abstrak

Microteaching is one of the courses that must be taken by students who are majoring in education. Microteaching is a course that studies and practices teaching processes that prioritize pedagogic abilities, and manage classes, and learning media. The goal of microteaching is that micro-teaching allow student-teachers to practice their skills with a small group of students before attempting to teach a larger group. It focuses on honing and developing specific teaching skills, as well as eliminating mistakes. It is understandable that student teachers may encounter difficulties during the teacher preparation process. The evaluation of teaching students as instructor nominees allows them to identify problems that arise during their teaching practice. The aim of this research is to find out how the student teacher’s perception towards microteaching aspects at the English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus. The methodology of this research was the qualitative method. To collect the data, the researcher used interview and questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to the student teacher’s that consist of 33 student teacher’s and the interview was distributed to 7 student teacher’s at the English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus in the academic year 2022/2023. Based on the data obtained, almost student teachers gave good perceptions of aspects of microteaching, namely Skills in opening and Closing Lesson, Explanation Skills, Skills to Create a Variation in Teaching, Reinforcement Skills, Questioning Skills, Classroom Management Skills, Small Group and Individual Teaching Ability, and Small Group Discussions. The most dominant aspects and having the highest score are Reinforcement Skills aspect, and Questioning Skills aspect. The result of the interview support the results of the questionnaire. There are several suggestions made by the researcher, namely for students, it is recommended for students who will take part in microteaching to master eight aspects of microteaching. Student teachers must have lots of references for variations in learning so that students do not get bored while learning. Student teachers are expected to be able to explore other creative and newest media in the learning process to create comfortable learning for students. For future researchers, it is expected to investigate more specific aspects of Microteaching in relation to the English Education Department study program at Universitas Muria Kudus.
