Abstrak

Figurative language is usually found in everyday conversation and is often found in literary works, such as films, advertisements, novels, poetry and songs. Figurative language is a way of expressing yourself using figurative words. Figurative language is very important for students, especially students who learn English through songs. with figurative language students have the ability to understand the meaning of songs. Lyrics are the writer's personal expression expressed through songs. This means that songs can be used as an educational tool to convey ideas and feelings that cannot be expressed directly. The purpose of this research were to find the types of figurative language in Kali Uchis " Melting" song lyrics and the connotative meaning in Kali Uchis " Melting" song lyrics. The researcher uses a qualitative research. The researchers use content analysis with stylistic theory to collect data. The data of the research are the figurative language, and the data source are the Kali Uchis- Melting song lyric. The researcher uses theory from (Leech, 1981) and (Keraf, 1984) to help analyze the figurative language in the lyrics of the song Kali Uchis. The findings of this research are fourteen lyrics in Kali Uchis Melting that contain figurative language. They are classified into three types: metaphor, personification, and simile. Overall, this song employs figurative language to express the singer's passionate feelings for the person she loves. This research highlights the importance of understanding the connotative meaning and use of figurative language in songs. Researchers hope that these findings will be useful for students, teachers and people who are interested in researching figurative language.
