Abstrak

In the English language teaching process, assessment is an important tool for examining the students’ skills and knowledge. Teachers must evaluate the results of the teaching and learning process. The objectives of the research are to analyze the content validity and face validity of English Final Examination Items in the private and state Islamic Junior High School Academic Year 2022-2023. The methodology used to perform this study is qualitative. The test’s content validity was assessed using content analysis. Data collection for this study used the documentary analysis approach. The writer examines the content validity using the English syllabus and table of specifications before calculating each item’s number according to the competencies and indicators. While analyzing face validity, the researcher used an English final examination document. The research findings are that the content validity of the English final exam questions in Private Islamic Junior High School and State Islamic Junior High School generally seems to be in line with their respective curriculum so the content validity is in the good category, but there are striking differences in terms of face validity. Private Islamic Junior High School examination tests show clarity in section layout direction but lack general examination guidance, with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes potentially leading to confusion. On the other hand, the State Islamic Junior High School examination shows good organization and clarity of instructions, but there are still many spelling and grammatical errors. Improvements in proofreading and clarity of instruction are recommended for both examinations to increase overall face validity and ensure fair grading for students.
