Abstrak

This research was motivated by the emergence of the problem of declining students' initial reading abilities in class II at SDN 02 Sengonbugel. The problem that researchers found was the lack of efficient learning activities at home so that students were still slow in beginning reading. This research aims to determine the forms of initial reading difficulties, the factors that cause initial reading difficulties, and the efforts made by teachers to overcome initial reading difficulties in class II students at SDN 02 Sengonbugel. Reading is a very complex language skill, reading requires visual abilities that focus on the ability of the eyes and text to find information. Beginning reading is an activity or activities carried out by a child starting from the introduction of letters through symbols. Beginning reading is done by training children to pronounce using the right intonation. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. This research was carried out at SDN 02 Sengonbugel, Mayong, Jepara. The data sources in this research are class II students and teachers at SDN 02 Sengonbugel. Data collection uses observation, interview and documentation techniques. The steps for data analysis using Miles and Huberman analysis are data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of the research show that there are several forms of initial reading difficulties experienced by class II students at SDN 02 Sengonbugel. These forms of difficulty include difficulty distinguishing letters that are almost the same in shape, difficulty spelling, difficulty reading double consonant letters, and difficulty paying attention to punctuation marks. Factors that influence include intelligence factors, physiological factors, psychological factors, and family environmental factors. The teacher's efforts to overcome the initial reading difficulties experienced by students are by providing additional hours (tutoring), providing special remedial reading programs, increasing self-confidence and motivation and not blaming students for their condition. The conclusion in this research is that students experience difficulty reading at the beginning. Influenced by intelligence factors, health factors, psychological factors and lack of attention from students' parents towards the students' initial reading learning process.
