Abstrak
Reading is one of the important English language skills because it plays important role in teaching learning process. Reading is essential for them to get information or knowledge to support their achievement when they read some literatures such as journal, articles, magazines, books, etc. As we know that there are many kinds of media of information which are written in English, so it is very useful for them. Being able to read well in English seems to be a must for them. In this research, the writer tried to find out the reading comprehension of the fourth semester students of Muria Kudus University with their different reading activities. It conducted to find out the difference between the reading comprehension of the fourth semester students of Muria Kudus University in academic year 2011/2012 who have high and low reading activity. This research is quantitative descriptive ex-post facto research with the subject of the research is the fourth semester students who join in academic reading class of English Education Department of Muria Kudus University in academic year 2011/2012. In deciding the sampling, the writer used a proportional random sampling technique. The writer takes 60 students as the sample of this skripsi. In the result, from the total of the sample, there are 28 students who belong to high reading activity and 32 students who have low reading activity. For high reading activity classification has good result with Mean score is 83,78 and low reading activity classification has sufficient result with Mean score is 75,87. Then, on the level significance 0.05 the result is t0 = 5,167 > tt = 2,021 and on the level of significance 0,01 is t0 = 5,167 > tt = 2,704. It can be concluded that there is significant difference in the reading comprehension of the fourth semester students who have high and low reading activity of English Education Department of Muria Kudus University in academic year 2011/2012. Based on the result of this research, the writer could state that the reading activity is one of cause or factor that could influences reading comprehension. So, reading comprehension of the students who have high reading activity is better than students who have low reading activity.
