Abstrak

One of parameter that is used to measure level of education success is students learning achievement. If the students show good learning achievement, it means that the education process is successs. But, when students show bad learning achievement, it means that the education process has failed. There are some factors that influence the learning achievement of the students. One of the factors is the environment of the students, whether they stay in Islamic boarding or stay in non-boarding. The objective of this research are: 1.To find out whether or not there is a significant difference of English achievement between Islamic boarding and non-boarding students of the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’ahid Kudus in the academic year 2011/ 2012. 2. To find out what are the factors that influence the English achievement of Islamic boarding and non-boarding students of the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’ahid Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012. The design of this research is causal comparative research. The population is all of the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’ahid Kudus in the academic year 2011/ 2012. The total number of the eighth grade students are 112 students. And the writer takes of the sample by using purposive random sampling technique. The purposive technique is used to take the class which is consist of Islamic boarding school students. And random sampling is used to take the class which is consist of non-boarding school students. To get the data of English achievement and the factors that influence it, the writer uses documentation and interview as the instruments of this research. The result of this research shows that there is a significant difference of English achievement between Islamic boarding school students and non-boarding school students of the eighth grade students of MTs Ma’ahid Kudus in the academic year 2011/ 2012. It is based on the calculation result of t-test which tell that to=2.91 is higher than tt=2.00. Based on the result of this research above, the writer suggested to the other school to apply the Islamic boarding school as one of the support facilities of school for the students. Because within it, the activities of the Islamic boarding school students will be organized and it can influence the learning achievement of the students.
