Abstrak

As one of the language skills, writing is one of the skills of communication, which can help us to express our idea, feeling and opinion in written language. Writing becomes a difficult subject especially for the students because writing is unity of our idea. Most of the students felt that writing is boring because process of writing consuming time. As a teacher, we have to apply some techniques to develop the material and make them more active and interest in class. Brainstorming technique is one of the alternative techniques that can be used in teaching English. In this research, the writer uses Brainstorming technique as a teaching technique in teaching English. The purpose of this research is to improve writing ability for the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kudus in academic year 2011/2012. The writer conducted a classroom action research to solve the research problem. The research is conducted in SMA Muhammadiyah Kudus in academic year 2011/2012, especially in the X-F. The number of students in this research is 30 students. The writer uses Recount text as the object of the research. The average score of the students’ in midterm test is 63.1. The average score of the students’ writing ability in cycle I is 71.46. In cycle II, the average score of the students’ writing skill in recount text is 75.84. So there is an increasing of the average of the students’ score in every cycle. Because the students got the score higher than the achievement minimum criteria and the students’ response in cycle II is good so the researcher stops her research. The students enjoyed doing discussion by using Brainstorming Technique that make easier to produce recount text. They become more enthusiastic in the class discussion. They could brainstorm their ideas freely when they make a composition. The writer can conclude that the use of Brainstorming Technique can improve the students’ writing ability at the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kudus in academic year 2011/2012, especially in X-F class. Thus, the writer suggests that a teacher must be creative, active, give motivation and support to the students in learning process using this technique
