Advisors: (1) Agung Dwi Nurcahyo, S.S., M.Pd (2) Diah Kurniati, S.Pd, M.Pd Key words: Recount Text, Generic Structure In teaching English for Junior High School Students, genres become the material which must be taught for the students. There are many kinds of texts (genre). Recounts text is one kinds of genre purposed to tell about the past events for informing and entertaining. Most of the students still cannot understand the simple genre taught by their teacher especially the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Bae Kudus. They are still confused how to analyze the generic structure correctly. Many of them cannot distinguish each of generic structure in a genre especially in recount text. Their limitation of genre knowledge makes them can not recognize the kind of genre. Based on the background above, the writer would like to do a research entitled “The Mastery of Analyzing the Generic Structure of Recount Text of the Eighth Year Students of SMP N 3 Bae Kudus in the Academic Year 2011/2012”. The purposes of the research is to find out the extent of the mastery of analyzing the generic structure of recount text of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Bae Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012. This research is quantitative descriptive research. The subject of the research is the eighth year students of class VIII-A of SMP N 3 Bae Kudus consist of 40 students. The instrument of the research was a test given to the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Bae Kudus The result of this research shows that the result of analyzing the generic structure of recount text test that was given to the sample of the eighth year students, the value of Mean is 77.05 and standard Deviation is 9.45 It means, The Mastery of Analyzing the Generic Structure of Recount Text of the Eighth Year Students of SMP N 3 Bae Kudus in the Academic Year 2011/2012 is categorized as good Considering the process and the results of this research, the writer suggests that (i) the teacher should give the clear explanation about the generic structure of recount text. Giving the example of analyzing recount text is also important to improve students’ mastery in recount text. Teacher should pay attention in it, in order to get the maximal result in examination (ii) the students should study more about genre especially recount text because in recount text, the students can express their experience by telling the activity they have done ABSTRAKSI Huda, Taufiqul. 2012. Ada banyak macam jenis teks. Teks recount adalah salah satu jenis teks yang bertujuan untuk menceritakan kejadian di masa lampau untuk member informasi atau menghibur. Kebanyakan siswa masih belum bisa memahami jenis teks sederhana yang diajarkan oleh guru mereka khususnya kelas delapan SMP N 3 Bae Kudus. Mereka masih bingung bagaimana menganalisis struktur umum dengan benar. Banyak dari mereka tidak bisa membedakan masing-masing struktur umum dalam jenis teks khususnya teks recount. Keterbatasan mereka membuat mereka tidak bisa mengenali jenis-jenis teks. Berdasarkan latar belakang diatas, penulis akan melakukan penelitian berjudul “Penguasaan Menganalisis Struktur Umum Teks Recount Siswa Kelas Delapan SMP N 3 Bae Kudus Tahun Pelajaran 2011/2012” Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penguasaan siswa kelas delapan SMP N 3 Bae Kudus tahun pelajaran 2011/2012 dalam menganalisis strktur umum teks recount. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-A SMP N 3 Bae Kudus yang terdiri dari 40 siswa. Instrument penelitian ini adalah tes yang diberikan kepada siswa kelas delapan SMP N 3 Bae Kudus Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil tes menganalisis struktur umum teks recount yang diberikan kepada siswa kelas delapan, nilai Mean is 77.05 dan standar Deviasinya adalah 9.45 ini berarti penguasaan dalam menganalisis struktur umum teks recount siswa kelas delapan SMP N 3 Bae Kudus tahun pelajaran 2011/2012 dikategorikan baik. Berdasarkan proses dan hasil penelitian ini, penulis menyarankan bahwa (i) guru seharusnya memberikan penjelasan yang jelas tentang struktur umum teks recount. Memberikan contoh dalam menganalisis teks recount juga penting untuk meningkatkan penguasaan siswa dalam teks recount. (ii) siswa seharusnya mempelajari lebih tentang jenis teks khususnya teks recount karena dalam teks recount, siswa bisa mengekspresikan pengalaman mereka dengan menceritakan aktivitas yang telah mereka lakukan.
