Abstrak

In the world of education, students are expected to master the English competence to support their skills that is writing recount text. But, sometimes the students have difficulties to express their writing because of many factors. They have to write and reconstruct some texts, for example recount text. Dictocomp is dictation and composition. It is one of technique that is easy to learn and can be effective way to teach writing recount text. Recount is a type of genres, which has a social function to retell events for the purpose of informing or entertaining. So, dictocomp can help the students easily to reconstruct recount text. The objective of the research is to find out whether there is any significant difference of the ability of writing recount texts of the eighth grade students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Ngasem Batealit Jepara taught by using and without using dictocomp technique in the academic year 2011/2012. To answer the research question, I hold a pre experimental research that is static group comparison design to apply dictocomp technique in teaching writing recount text. This design uses two groups; experimental group and control group. I use a test as instrument to gather the data of the ability in writing recount text in post test for the students taught by using and without using dictocomp technique. From the analysis, I find that the best score that the students achieve taught by using dictocomp technique is 94 and the lowest score is 65. While the mean of the students is 76.33 and the standard deviation is 13.08. With that result, the student’s ability is excellent criteria. While, the English score that control group achieve is 81 and the lowest score is 52. Meanwhile, the average is 68.46 and deviation standard is 8.76. The level of the ability of writing recount text taught without using dictocomp technique is adequate criteria. The result of t-test is 2.69 with t-table 2.01. So, there is a significant difference between the ability of writing recount text of the eighth grade students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Ngasem Batealit Jepara taught by using and without using dictocomp technique in the academic year 2011/2012. Based on the fact, the students should pay more attention in teacher’s explanation and also practice a lot in writing. Dictocomp technique can be effective to teach writing in order that the teaching learning process is more interesting, because using dictocomp technique as teaching can develop the students in all four language skills. It can also help the students to develop short-term memory. Students practice retaining meaningful phrases or whole sentences before writing them down. So it can motivate the students to write English
