Abstrak
Writing is a way to express feeling, ideas, and thoughts in a written form. Writing is not simple as its form because it includes a complex process. In fact, the writer had observation and got that the students have difficulties to build and understand English text. Because of it, the writer tries to solve the problem by conducting an experiment research on implementation of the use of authentic texts in teaching writing. After having perception of authentic texts, the students are expected to be able to get the concept about the certain topic and lead them to write effectively. In this research, the writer focuses on narrative text use authentic texts as the material. The objective of this research is: to find out the significant difference between the mastery of writing narrative text of the eleventh grade students of MAN I Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012 taught by using authentic text and text available on the students’ textbook. The writer takes two classes as the sample by using purposive sampling technique and some average in English from both classes. It is class XI IPA 1(68) and class XI IPA 4 (64,5). The experimental group was taught by using authentic texts and the control group was taught by using available on the students’ textbook. The research instrument used by the researcher is essay. The result of the research shows that is: (1) The mastery of writing narrative text of the eleventh grade students of MAN I Kudus taught by using authentic text in the academic year 2011/2012 is categorized very good score with the mean is 77.3 and standard deviation is 6.2, (2) The mastery of writing narrative text of the eleventh grade students of MAN I Kudus who are taught by using text available on the students’ textbook in the academic year 2011/2012 is categorized average score with the mean is 72.7 and standard deviation is 5.6, (3) There is a significant difference of the mastery of writing narrative text of the eleventh grade students of MAN I Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012 (t_o = 3.2 > t_t = 2, 01). Based on the result above, the writer suggests that the teacher should use authentic texts in teaching process in order to make the students interested and do not feel bored in understanding the material that has been taught.
