Abstrak
Language components are vocabulary, structure and pronunciation. Vocabulary is one of the language components, besides pronunciation and grammar. Students cannot say or write anything in English without knowing English vocabulary. In teaching vocabulary, the teachers have different way to presents their lessons. The teaching media that have been used to increase students’ skill in the mastery of the vocabulary is the Dora the Explorer Movie. Therefore, the writer carries out the research entitle “Teaching English vocabulary of fifth grade students of SD N 05 Kayen pati in academic year 2011/2012 taught by using Dora the explorer movie” The purpose of this research is to find out the whether or not there is a significant difference between the Vocabulary Mastery of fifth grade students of SD N 05 Kayen Pati in academic year 2011/2012 between before and after being taught by using Dora the explorer movie To answer the research questions, the researcher holds an experiment to apply Dora the explorer movie in teaching English Vocabulary. She makes a one-group pretest-posttest experiment. The number of sample is 25. She uses test as the instrument to gather the data of the students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught by Dora the explorer movie. The result of the experiment shows that the calculation of t-test, with the level of significance 5%, the Degree of freedom (Df) 24, and t-table (tt) 2.07, the t-observation (to) obtained is 5.76. In other words, t-observation is higher than t-table (to > tt). In detail, after being taught by using Dora the explorer movie, the Mean is 79 or categorized as “good”. It is higher than the Mean of the Vocabulary Mastery of fifth grade students of SD N 05 Kayen Pati in academic year 2011/2012 before being taught by using Dora the explorer movie Circuits which is 66.25 or categorized as “sufficient”. Therefore, the hypothesis of the research that states that there is a significant difference between the Vocabulary Mastery of the Tenth Grade Students of fifth grade students of SD N 05 Kayen Pati in academic year 2011/2012 between before and after being taught by using Dora the explorer movie Therefore, the researcher suggests that all teacher give innovation and creation in teaching and learning process. So, giving cartoon film need to be applied in order to increase the students to the teaching process.
