Abstrak

English is a part of international languages that used for communication, like as Mechanical Engineering students use English book to string engine instruction.For transferring English into Bahasa we need skill and specific ability. Mechanical Engineering students who are not studying english as their main subject, can do some mistakes in transalating. Making Mistakes are a natural and unavoidable part of the process of learning English.The writer did preliminary research at Mechanical Engineering students Department of Muria Kudus University, Mechanical Engineering students said that translating is hard to do, it is too difficult. This research aimed to know how the ability of the Mechanical Engineering students in translating engine instruction and the analysis of the fifth semester students of mechanical engineering in translating engine instruction. This research is a qualitative research which was conducted in Mechanical Engineering of Muria Kudus University. The subjects of this research were the students of the fifth student’s Mechanical Engineering of Muria Kudus University in academic year 2016/2017, while the data source is the result of student’s translation test. After analyzing the result, the writer knows the ability and found the mistakes anlysis made by the fifth students of Mechanical Engineering Department of Muria Kudus University 2016/2017 academic year. The students translation are good, but there are some student who still have low score in translating. The ability of the students are classified in four ability, for the first is very good, good, fair and the last is poor. They also made some mistakes in translating engine instruction and classified in four types of mistakes, they are incorrect word, missing word, word order and unknown word. Based on the result above, the writer suggest to the students should not worry to making mistakes beacuse mistakes is human for everyone, they should use the mistakes as device to learn more about translation. And this research can give information for the students to know their ability and their mistakes in translating, so the students can understand about types of mistakes and the mistakes that have made by the students.
