Abstrak

Code mixing is the use of two languages together by speakers insofar as the language changes from one language to the other in a statement (Wardaugh 1986: 103). In society, people live with kind of ethnic groups. People use code-mixing to communicate with other people easily. They have to use one or more languages to communicate with each other like code mixing used in the Novel "Senja & Pagi”. The purpose of this research of sociolinguistic study is to describe the type of code-mixing used in the novel, then to describe the factors influencing the use of code-mixing in the novel In this research, the researcher uses a qualitative method to investigate the script in the novel that is a phenomenon this method is used to describe clearly the type of code-mixing used in the novel, then to describe the factors influencing the use of code-mixing in the novel. In doing research, the writer needs some tools to be flexible in collecting data, reading the novel, and dividing code-mixing in the novel with underlining the text. Types of code-mixing are Insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The dominant type that the writer found is insertion. This research is finding 419 data for the type of code-mixing. The next is factor influencing, the research shows that the total of factors influencing code-mixing that the writer's found is 408 utterances. They are separated into seven factors influencing there are talking about a particular topic, quoting somebody else, being emphatic about something, taking the form of an interjection, using repetition for clarification, expressing group identity, and the intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor. The writer just found six factors. The dominant factor is talking about a particular topic.
