Abstrak
This research used podcasts on the YouTube application to determine the level of effectiveness in teaching listening skills at SMA Negeri 1 Tayu. The researcher used a quantitative research method with an experimental design, one group pre-test, and a post-test. The independent variable is the use of English podcasts, and the dependent variable is the students' listening ability. The study found that students' listening skills improved significantly after using YouTube podcasts. The mean score of the pre-test was 70.33, and the mean score of the post-test was 85.44. The standard deviation of the pre-test was 9.01, and the standard deviation of the post-test was 7.16. The t-test showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores, indicating that the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The results showed that the percentage of post-test scores from listening ability students was superior to the presentation of pre-test scores. The t-test was 15.360, which is greater than the t-table (15.360 > 1.69), indicating a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test after using the YouTube application treatment. Therefore, it can be concluded that teaching and learning activities using Listening to YouTube podcasts effectively improve the listening skills of twelfth-grade students of SMAN 1 Tayu. In conclusion, using YouTube podcasts to teach listening skills is effective for improving the listening skills of twelfth-grade students at SMAN 1 Tayu. The t-test results show a significant influence from the effectiveness of using YouTube podcasts to teach listening skills to twelfth-grade students at SMAN 1 Tayu. With YouTube podcasts, students can learn by listening through subtitles on the YouTube application and do not feel bored in learning, especially on podcasts. Therefore, it is recommended to implement the use of YouTube podcasts in teaching listening skills in the classroom.
