Abstrak
Reading is the basic tool of education and the most important skill in everyday life. However, the fact shows that generally students have low interest in reading. Suggestopedia is one of methods that can bring the students to the situation where they have high interest to read and learning the material enjoyable. The objective of this research is to find out whether there is significant difference on the reading comprehension of descriptive texts of the tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Ulum Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 before and after being taught by using Suggestopedia. The subject of the research was the tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Ulum Jekulo Kudus of academic year 2011/ 2012 who are taking English subject. This research was hypothesized that Suggestopedia can enhance reading comprehension of tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Ulum Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2011/2012. The design of this research was experimental research because it is to find out whether there is effect relation to the variable or not. And There was only one experimental group in this research. The result showed that the reading comprehension of descriptive texts of the tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Ulum Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 before being taught by using Suggestopedia was categorized poor. The Mean and standard deviation are 59.75 and 8.36. Meanwhile, the reading comprehension of descriptive texts of the tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Ulum Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 after being taught by using Suggestopedia was categorized good. The Mean and standard deviation are 74.75 and 5.44. Based on the research finding, it can be concluded that there is significant difference of the reading comprehension of descriptive texts of the tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Ulum Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 before and after being taught by using Suggestopedia. It means that the students made significant progress in reading comprehension. Considering the process and the results of this research, the writer suggests: the English teachers can use Suggestopedia as a teaching method to enhance their students’ reading ability; the students who take English class can use Suggestopedia as one of methods to enhance their reading comprehension; for further research, a similar research can also be conducted to enhance the other skills.
