Abstrak

Speaking is productive skill in oral mode that express ideas, opinion, feeling or others in order to tell, declare, inform, and as such needed to be developed and practiced indepently. Speaking is one of important skill in language. The students must be able to speak English fluently. So, the writer try to solve that by giving interview to her students as a technique to enhance the student’s speaking ability. The objectives of this research are to find out the use of “interview” can improve the speaking ability of the eleventh A grade students of MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014, to explain how the speaking ability of the eleventh A grade students of MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 when they are taught by using “interview”, and to explain students’ participations of the eleventh A grade students of MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 when they are taught by using “interview”. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. It consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, namely (1) planning, (2) acting, (3) observing and (4) reflecting. This research was conducted in MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. The subject of this research was the eleventh A grade students of MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 which has 25 students. In collecting the data, the writer used observation sheet and achievement test. The test was done when the students were practicing in front of the class by using interview technique in every cycle. The result of this research shows that; (1)The use of “interview” can improve the speaking ability of the eleventh A grade students of MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014, (2) The speaking ability of the eleventh A grade sudents of MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 taught by using “interview” is 69, categorized sufficient in cycle I and 74.56, categorized good in cycle II, and (3) The students’ participations of the eleventh A grade students of MA NU Miftahul Falah Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 when they are taught by using “interview” is categorized sufficient in cycle I and categorized good in cycle II. The writer suggests to others English teachers to use an appropriate technique in teaching English. The English teacher can use interview as a technique of teaching speaking. Because it can make the students interest and have good confidence when they want to speak. She also suggests to other researchers to use this research as their reference to make other research.
